Approximately 2,010 O’Sullivans/Sullivans have already registered to be part of a historic and hopefully record-breaking gathering of people who share this important name.
The O’ Sullivans of Beara are hosting the gathering, which aims to take the World Record off the Gallaghers in Donegal! Of course Beara is the natural home for the event, given its illustrious links to O’Sullivan Beare.
The event will be hosted by the Chieftain of the O’Sullivan Clan, Kelly Sullivan – she was presented with the chain of office by the Cork and Kerry County Mayors on the steps of City Hall in Boston in 2023.
The record attempt itself will be carefully supervised to make sure that it is genuinely the largest same last name gathering the world has ever seen.
The clan gathering and world record attempt will be a family event, with music and entertainment on offer throughout a weekend of celebration and story-sharing. Sullivans and O’Sullivans from the world over are expected to be part of the excitement.
The West Cork weekend will include tours of the O’Sullivan Beare castles, and talks about emigration from the Beara peninsula, South Kerry and West Cork throughout the centuries, as well as the world record attempt itself.
The World Record Gathering will take place from 30th May to 2nd June 2026.
